Friends

When I was growing up whenever me and my family would go out to eat I always a big meal and then end up never finishing it (thank goodness for doggie bags and leftovers). My Dad has always said that my eyes are bigger in than my tummy; I feel like this also relates to my life. I have a huge appetite for life and everything that comes along with it, family, friends, school, training, work, housework- I love it all. I love having a full load and being busy all the time but that can’t go without saying that managing all of that isn’t always easy.
There are definitely areas in my life that I have been neglected or I haven’t put as much effort in. My girlfriend friend Ashlea introduced me to the blog Enjoying the small things  and to her book Bloom (If you haven’t read it, you should put it on your reading list). In her book Bloom, she goes through a life trauma and talks about how she was able to be happy and live through it. She says that she wouldn’t have made it through without her “net” of family and friends. After reading that book I started thinking a lot about my net and who has been there with me through the good and the bad throughout my life and that is when I realized; I have seriously neglected my friends.
I have great friends that have been with my through thick and thin. I have some of the best friends a girl could have. I have so many funny memories made with them that whenever I think about them I can’t help but to burst out laughing. I am so happy that I got to grow up with those girls because the experiences that we had together shaped us into the women we are today. After years of distance, it is easy to let time go by without getting in touch and I want to change that.
I feel like the last couple years we have been so busy raising our baby, building our family and going to school that we have let some of our friendships dwindle. When you are newlyweds and brand new parents all at once, it is hard not to get lost it the safe haven and the comfort of your home. After soaking up nine months of newly wedded bliss we decided that we both missed our friends and decided that it was time to venture out and repair our neglected “nets”.
I truly believe that friendships are so important to make life full and happy. I want to raise my baby in a village surrounded by love and security. I think that it is so important for parents to make time for friendships; it is important to have time to be able to connect with friends and build lasting relationships. I am so excited to see the fun that we will both have when we make more time for our friends.
Trent started it out with a bang, of course, by going to Supercross with his best friend Trevor in Seattle over the last weekend. They were both excited to hang out and go to the big city. I mean who could say no to any trip to Seattle- we love that city. Trent’s Dad was into racing motocross and so I’m sure that brought up lots of cherished memories for him. I am so glad he got to go experience it and hang with his bestie.
Do you know what this means? GIRL TRIP! You better believe there is a grand plan in the works. I am looking forward to strengthening all my friendships with the women that got me to where I am today. I love them all so much and I want to give some of the love back that they have been giving me over the years. I also think this calls for stationary and snail mail.
Stay tuned.
