Spring in full swing

I have been finishing up painting our bedroom- when I say finishing up I mean I only have a few more parts along the trim! I probably should be doing that right now.  I can’t wait to put our room back in order. I love how the color scheme worked out. We have been having a blast learning how to do at home projects ourselves. We have learned a lot and one of my most prized tips I feel I must share.

You know when you buy a case of water at the store? Well after the water is all gone you're left with a cardboard box thing. Well that my friends is the key to worry-free painting! I put my paint gallon, brushes, tape, and wet cloth inside the box. You can just drag it along with you to each wall you are painting. I am messy and I constantly lose things- This makes painting a breeze.  You should try it next time you have a painting project!

We have been trying to spend at least an hour outside each day. The wind in our town hasn't made it very pleasant. Luckily, Terrance is constantly warm; so I bundle up and we head out to brave the wind. Seriously you guys, sometimes I don’t know how Terrance can stand in it! Regardless, we have been seeing some awesome results from it. First off our garden is really starting to look completely cleaned out. I am in the process of turning all the dirt. It is a BIG garden but I enjoy the work out I get from doing it! Also, Terrance LOVES being outside… You will find him running his lawn mower or trying to use a big rake. You also can’t beat the vitamin D that we are both getting from the sun; I also don’t mind that I can already see tan lines!

Our indoor garden is looking fabulous. They are on their 3^rd day of the lighting cycle. (More about that can be found here). I seriously can’t believe how easy it is to grow seeds! I also didn't think that Trent would be as into it as he is! It is really fun to peak in there to watch them grown. I hope that we get to eat them all as yummy veggies this summer!

Hallelujah!!!

Sprouted seedlings Friday night 

 My veggies and flower seedlings sprouted!!!! I am so excited!!! I love growing seeds! 

 I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw what was sprouting up from the holes I carefully filled.

After four days of darkness and soaking up lots of water this was the result.

The picture below is the seedlings in the propagation tray  covered by the humidity dome. They will sit under a grow light  for 16 hours a day. The light and tray are two feet long. I was able to hang the light in our bathroom closet and place the tray right below it. I want the seeds to be in complete darkness for the other 8 hours of the day, so the closet was a great place to keep it. I am SOO excited to see what they will become after just one lighting cycle. 

So far I can say that I am hooked to gardening. It is just so awesome to think that I am growing food for my family. I am interested to see how much money we will save after a summer of fresh veggies. Do any of you have edible gardens? If so, how much money have you saved by having one?

Dear Terrance,

Hiya bud. We are getting pretty busy with spring starting and your sleeping is starting to get in our way! Between all of our play dates and all our gardening we are plum wearing you out! Right now we are trying to change your morning nap from 8-10 instead of 9-1130. It isn’t going very well… you must be growing a ton! You’re a little sleepy head. I love you. Sleep all you want!

Dear veggies,

Oh please, oh please be sprouting under the sink! The day is finally here that I will bring you all into the light and to start the next phase. Truthfully I could have looked this morning but I’m too scared! Hopefully I will be posting pictures of sprouts in a few hours..

Dear running shoes,

The time has finally come. I have put too many miles on the ones I currently love! I dread getting a new pair of running shoes. It’s not that I don’t love me a brand spanking pair of kicks … but there’s more to it. It is the awkward few days of chin splints that I get from breaking in a new pair of running shoes.  I’ll be shopping around for a new pair in the near future.

Dear Trent,

You are seriously so funny. You have a way of doing making me laugh and if I happen to look back on the situation I will start bursting out laughing. I am so happy that I am your wife because that means that I will forever be surrounded by your laughter. You make me and T’s life so happy with your joy for life. I can’t wait to travel the world with you.

Gardening 101

I'm so excited that I will have my first edible garden this year! Right now, I have cherry tomatoes, peppers, green onions, big tomatoes, sweet corn, pumpkins, cucumbers, and a variety of flowers sitting in the darkness under my sink. I can’t wait to fill our big outside garden and have fresh veggies all summer long.

One of my great friends, Laura, used to have a garden shop. Girlfriend hooked me up with a rapid rooter mat, a propagation tray and a humidity dome.  I started to germinate them yesterday and they should sprout in 3 more days! I can’t wait to take them out of the darkness and see what I grew!!!  After the veggies and flowers have sprouted I will put them under a light and keep them inside for four weeks.

My goal is to have TONS of tomatoes. This year I want to learn how to can and I want to can homemade pasta sauce for next fall. We go through an INSANE amount of pasta sauce in this house and next year I want it all to be homemade.

I am so grateful to be living on this farm and being able to have a garden. My mother-in-law, Edie, is an avid gardener. The flowers that she plants are always so PRETTY. I want my yard to be full of beautiful flowers like hers. I’m really looking forward to spending time outside with the boys growing our own food. 

Life lately (2)

HAPPY MONDAY!!!!

I am so SUPER excited that it is April. I hope you all out there in cyberspace are having as beautiful of a spring day as we are. We have had a great day so far. We woke up ate our favorite breakfast… 3 eggs over easy. (Sometimes I only have two but the little t-rex has 3… that kid can eat). After that Terrance went down for a nap and I got to start our summer veggies! I am so excited to have my first edible garden this year. I can’t wait for summer days and fresh home grown food. We went to visit our Grammy and eat the BEST egg salad sandwiches. On Monday Terrance usually spends a few hours over there and this Mama goes to work (work outs, homework, blogging, reading). Today it is about 75 degrees and I went and ran the bleachers at our local stadium. It felt so good to have the sun beating on my back as a forced myself to run- I even got a tan line ;).

I joined the life-lately bi-weekly link up  and now I am back for more. We have been pretty busy the last couple weeks. We have started some major spring cleaning in our home and also some redecorating. Spring is my favorite time of year and we have been spending a lot of time outside. Between getting the garden prepared for the summer and our adventures (walking T until he’s worn out) we are soaking up a ton of vitamin D. We are so grateful to be living on the farm and love it so much. We can see the airport in the distance and Terrance’s favorite thing to is to watch the planes take off and land. He points and shoots with pure fascination. He is probably going to jump out of them with his uncle one day. (Uncle Justin is a professional sky diver).

Terrance got invited to an Easter egg hunt at his friend Kanon’s house. WE (I) was so excited because this was going to be the year that he could participate!!! Little mister over slept an was an hour late to the party but we made it just in time for the egg hunt.  Terrance’s favorite thing to do anywhere is eat. My darling Mommy friends put together an adorable and YUMMY food spread; everything from rice krispies to cupcakes topped with bunnies. After Terrance had a few bites he was sold and I couldn’t get him interested in anything else. I ran to the first egg and jumped up and down. He thought it was kinda cool but he definitely thought the food was better. Oh well. Maybe next year! We still had such a great time getting to mingle with other mama’s and babies.

Our sweet little niece had her very first birthday over the weekend. We all got to play in a gym and it was fun!!! T had a great time running around and playing with his cousin’s. My absolute favorite thing about first birthday parties is the tradition of the baby digging into the cake! It is so much fun for the baby and it is fun to watch- Rylie girl loved playing in her cake.  She was surrounded my so much love and so many presents! I loved watching my bro and sis in law look at their baby with so much happiness and joy. It was a great first birthday party!

On Easter Sunday I went to church and enjoyed the wonderful service. After that I met up with the boys and we went to my parents. My dad makes the BEST finger steak ever and we HAVE to have it every holiday- it was awesome. We hung out at their house and played outside. T has loved all his Easter baskets and now is into cars and saying broom-broom. I had to cut the holiday celebrations short because I had to go to work. I didn’t think that I was going to be that sad but when I got to work it hit me how hard it was to leave. I had so many fun things planned and I was so sad I couldn’t be there. I cried at work- not like cried tears but my eyes were filled with them. All the girls that I work with are so sweet and figured out how to get me out of there as soon as possible.

I am feeling very grateful and blessed starting out this new month. I hope that all you other blogger’s out there feel the same.
